We developed a Wear OS application that runs continuously in the background, using the smartwatch's accelerometer and heart rate sensor to detect anomalies. A proprietary fall-detection model was trained on firefighter movement data to minimize false positives in high-activity environments. On detection, the app automatically shares the responder's GPS coordinates, initiates an SOS call, and streams live health vitals to the command center app.
Real-Time Fall Detection
WatchGuard uses a custom machine learning model trained on accelerometer and gyroscope patterns from firefighting scenarios. When a hard fall is detected and the wearer is unresponsive to a 10-second prompt, the app immediately broadcasts an alert - bypassing the need for any manual action from the responder.
Instant GPS Location Sharing
The moment an SOS event is triggered, the responder's precise GPS location is transmitted to the command center dashboard in real time. Location updates continue every 5 seconds throughout the emergency, allowing incident commanders to direct rescue teams to the exact position.
Emergency SOS Activation
Responders can also manually trigger SOS with a long-press of the smartwatch's physical button - useful in situations where a fall has not occurred but assistance is still needed. The system simultaneously calls a predefined emergency contact and posts the alert to the incident command app.
Comprehensive Health Monitoring
Drawing from Android Health Connect API, WatchGuard continuously monitors heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, and activity-level metrics. Anomaly thresholds are customizable by the incident commander, allowing alerts to be fine-tuned for environment-specific risk factors. All health data is logged for post-incident analysis.
