We built a visionOS application from the ground up using Swift and RealityKit. The app loads high-fidelity 3D tooth models and allows clinicians to manipulate them with natural hand gestures, zoom in to inspect individual surfaces, and annotate areas of concern in 3D space. A patient-facing mode lets the dentist walk a patient through their own anatomy in an immersive, easy-to-understand presentation.
Immersive 3D Teeth Models
Using RealityKit and Apple's spatial rendering pipeline, the app loads photorealistic 3D models of individual teeth and full dental arches at life-size scale. Clinicians can orbit, zoom, and section through models using natural pinch-and-drag gestures, providing a level of detail impossible to achieve with flat imagery.
Revolutionary Dental Precision
The application supports overlay annotations that a dentist can draw directly onto the 3D model in space. These annotations persist and can be exported alongside the model as a PDF report - creating a new standard for treatment documentation that goes far beyond traditional charting.
Advanced Diagnostic Instruments
The app integrates a suite of diagnostic tools, including cross-sectional slicing, surface measurement, and color-mapped stress visualization based on bite force data. These tools give clinicians insights that previously required expensive physical lab equipment.
Innovative Treatment Planning
A dedicated treatment planning workspace lets clinicians model proposed restorations in 3D alongside the patient's existing anatomy. Before and after states can be compared side by side in full spatial resolution, enabling truly informed consent and collaborative decision-making with patients.
